It finally happened, Twitter is now writing checks to Twitter creators. This was first announced by Elon Musk in February of 2023, and though we were expecting this to happen, I doubt any of us thought it would happen this soon.

There isn’t much information released around Twitter’s ad-revenue sharing program. We don’t know where the money is coming from, what days creators get paid, or how they’re calculating the rev-share split. What we do know is that you can now get paid to tweet!

So how do you become a “Twitter Creator”?

Obviously, you can’t simply tweet to earn, that would lead to a ton of spam and the website would ultimately break. So Elon and the team at Twitter implemented a few eligibility requirements before you can join the company’s partner program.

Here is the full breakdown:

  1. You need 10,000+ active followers (for now)

  2. Have at least 5 million impressions on your post per month for 3 consecutive months (the more impressions, the higher the payout)

  3. You need to be subscribed to Twitter Blue or Verified Organizations

  4. Your tweets have to be inline with Twitter’s Creator Monetization Standards

You can read the full details, including Twitter’s Monetization Standards here.

I know what you’re thinking, the eligibility requirements are quite high, but this is necessary for a platform that is paying you simply to write. Which leads me to this conclusion, the Twitter rev sharing program isn’t for everyone on the platform, at least in it’s early stages. It’s for actual creators, for those who take content creation seriously.

Yes, you can have fun on the platform, but this program was not created for those who sh*tpost or engagement farm, you have to provide real value, you have to look at yourself as a professional.

In short, if you have a strategy and you work it, you should win.

How Much Are Creators Being Paid?

Social media is becoming competitive. Where you start can determine where you finish. If you’re new to the space, you have to ask yourself, what’s going to be my focus?

Is it YouTube? We know creators in that space making millions.

Maybe TikTok? If you’re creative enough you could grow really fast.

Perhaps Twitter? Risky, as it’s new, but after seeing some of these payouts, I think it’s going to be the obvious choice for many, as it’s the easiest to start.

The highest payout we see here is from Brad Krassenstein, in total he received $24,305! Keep in mind, this is over the course of 5 months, as payouts began in February of 2023.

If we do the math, we can see that he was paid a total of $4,861… not bad for a platform that is supposedly running out of money.

Now, before you get excited about living off Tweets, it is important to keep in mind that Brian is one of the most popular creators on Twitter. At the time of writing this, he has a total 754,100 followers.

Not impossible, but definitely going to be hard to replicate those numbers. For those who want to try, Brian tweeted a full breakdown of how he was able to gain success on the platform.

Getting Started on Twitter

Not everyone is creative, not everyone has the time to learn Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premier, hell, not everyone has a proper computer or camera to even get started. Twitter changes that. You can still be creative, but you also don’t have to be. This payout program is a huge win for creators.

All you seriously need is your phone and an opinion. That’s why I think it’s going to be the most successful creator platform of them all, as the barrier to entry is so small and most of us have been doing something similar on other platforms for free anyway.

Getting started is rather simple. Pick a niche and go all-in. I know it’s basic advice, but it works really well on Twitter.

To make this fun for you, don’t pick anything trendy, don’t pick what you think people want you to talk about, pick what you actually enjoy. If you’re passionate about a topic, talk about it. If you have strong opinions, voice them.

There is no limit on what you can do on Twitter. Want to talk about your obsession for Marvel movies? Do it, the platform barely has any users, it’s literally paying people to come spark these conversations.

Once you pick your niche, follow these guidelines from @MaliePRMedia.

That’s really it, that’s all you need to start earning on Twitter. The platform simply ask that you show up and stay consistent.
